Feedback from target audience
After creating our radio show we created a survey on survey monkey, in which we asked our intended target audience some questions on what they thought about our radio show. This was after quality feedback from our audience and strengths/ weaknesses of our final product. Achieving useful feedback was helpful for us as it allowed us to make changes before presenting the final piece to fit the brief of creating a 5-10 local radio show for Sheffield Live.
The responses we got from the feedback shows that the majority of our target audience enjoyed the radio show ONE20 FM giving it an average of 9 out of 10, which I can conclude from this that our radio show was successful to suit our intended target audience.
As I can see from analysing the feedback we received that indeed our radio show was successful. This was due to as the feedback suggest that our audience believed they would ne no improvements we would have to make if we was to do it again. Our audience also guessed the correct target audience in which we show the codes and conventions through this. All of them guessed it right which shows that ON20 FM is suited towards our target audience.
Our intended target audience also believe that it suits the codes and conventions of a radio show, although they haven't gone into detail we can conclude from this feedback it meets the brief and is well suited to our target audience and client.
Meeting the brief:
I believe our radio show ONE20 FM successfully met the brief and requirement's of a radio show as we have created a new local radio show for Sheffield Live and have met the content and conventions of producing a radio show through a range of ideas such as through the use of:
Presenters- We used two presenters in our radio show one being myself and the other Hannah, this is a feature of every radio show. As our brief is to create a local radio show both the presenters are Yorkshire and show conventions of being Yorkshire through the dialect and the phrases they use in the radio show. The mode of address used through the presenters is peer to peer which suits out target audience of young teenagers who usually speak in this mode of address when talking to their friends etc thou making it more relatable for our audience. We also used elobarte coding when speaking the dialogue from our script as it shows that it more relatable to a specific audience.
News Bulletin- At the beginning of our radio show we inserted a news bulletin which is used in every radio show whether it be local or national. As I read out the news I informed our audience while also entertaining them within the audio effects added to make it sound more interesting. Also through the use of having local news we met the brief of creating a local radio show, another reason for having local news as to inform our audience on anything which could be important to them for example our news bulletin which explains an issue with the Supertram as this is the main link to Meadowhall which is popular within our target audience demographics.
Features/Competitions etc- ONE20 FM also shows a range of features throughout our script which suits the brief, purpose and planning of our radio show. Competitions for example are included in our radio show which is there to fit the purpose of entertaining our audience, this is done through two competitions in which we give the winners tickets to Tramlines which supports the brief of a local radio show and this festival is common to the locals of Sheffield and also winning vouchers to spend at a bar. This fits our target audience of those above 18 as at the young age they would want to win tickets to spend at a trendy bar therefore tuning in to our radio show and gathering a wider target audience.
Our theme for our radio show is also confessionals, this is entertaining for the audience as it allows them to get things off the chest and to be in with a chance to win a prize for doing so, this is fitting the purpose of entertaining our audience as it shows a comedic value to our radio show in which humour they would fit interesting and funny. Thou making them want to tune in every show.
We have also included a feature of song requests, this is highly popular within radio stations for example Hallam FM and Capital do this which have a similar target audience. The song requests allows the audience to ring in or text with a song they want, this is accessible and easy for our audience to do as they will have smart phones and at the time of night in which we are airing our show in where our audience are getting ready to go out they will want to here songs picked by them for their entertainment.
Another feature which we include in our radio show which meets the brief and codes and conventions of a radio show is through the use of having a section on talking about celeb gossip. This is done at the end of our radio show. We have included a section on celeb gossip as our target audience will find it interesting to hear and entertaining with the narrative it portrays. We used trending news as this would be popular for our audience and everyone would want to know more details of a certain subject.
The use of trending songs and popular throwbacks was used in ONE20 FM as it suits a wider audience for anyone just tuning in it will make them want to carry on listening if they hear a song which is trending at the moment.
Jingles- ONE20 FM features many different jingles throughout our show, including news jingle, song jingles and station jingles. This is to portray our brand and changing the jingles up will make it more interesting for our audience to hear than the same jingle played all the time. As we play a jingle very often throughout the gaps in our show which is similar to Radio stations including Hallam FM and Capital in which they have a selection of jingles and are all played often.
Bedding music/audio effects- When in the editing stage we gathered sounds of royalty free websites, in which we downloaded the sounds and imported them into our show for it to meet the purpose of entertaining our audience but also showing conventions as a radio show through the use of bedding music. This is played in the background for it to sound more interesting as without this our audience might not want to tune in.
Advertisements- We have features of advertisements played throughout our radio show, these all relate to our intended target audience. One being about University which suits the age group of our audience from 16-25 as at that age most of them are students either at university or planning on going, therefore having an advert on that suits our planning for meeting the requirements of our target audience.
Strengths of ONE20 FM
I I believe we had a lot of strengths through creating our radio show ON20 FM. The first strength we succeeded in was creating a target audience and showing codes and conventions of this specific target audience throughout the process of producing a radio show. This was important as having an audience in mind would keep the show going and suits their demographics through the use of features which I have displayed above. This is also done through the mode of address we used having chatty dialogue which keeps the audience tuned in.
Another strength I believe we showed is how we met the purpose and brief in our radio show. The purpose was to entertain and I believe we did this through the features we added and songs included, this is one of the main factors in succeeding as if it didn't meet the purpose of entertaining then our audience wouldn't want to tune in again after listening to our radio show.
Weaknesses of ONE20 FM
Although our radio was successful from our audience and feedback, there was some weaknesses which occurred in the production of producing our radio show. One of the main weaknesses was due to the recording sometimes having unintentional added audio which didn't need to be there for example the sound of clicking and wispy sounds from when we was talking. Although we couldn't fix this at the time, this could be fixed if we was to produce a radio show again and record in a quieter location and making sure there was no audio what could be picked up from the microphone which didn't need to be there.
Another weakness which occurred was that we could have had more
local based music in our production as this would show that it is local based radio show and it would also gather an audience for the ,musicians therefore creating a community and showing the purpose on entertainment.
Chnages or Amendmants
One major change in which we did when producing our radio show ONE20 FM is to change of presenters. As it was originally three we changed it to two one being myself and there Hannah. This was due to us looking at other examples of radio shows in which it isn't common to have a lot of presenters as you don't feel as familiar with them as you should.
