Feedback from target audience

After creating our radio show we created a survey on survey monkey, in which we asked our intended target audience some questions on what they thought about our radio show. This was after quality feedback from our audience and strengths/ weaknesses of our final product. Achieving useful feedback was helpful for us as it allowed us to make changes before presenting the final piece to fit the brief of creating a 5-10 local radio show for Sheffield Live.

The responses we got from the feedback shows that the majority of our target audience enjoyed the radio show ONE20 FM giving it an average of 9 out of 10, which I can conclude from this that our radio show was successful to suit our intended target audience.

As I can see from analysing the feedback we received that indeed our radio show was successful. This was due to as the feedback suggest that our audience believed they would ne no improvements we would have to make if we was to do it again. Our audience also guessed the correct target audience in which we show the codes and conventions through this. All of them guessed it right which shows that ON20 FM is suited towards our target audience.

Our intended target audience also believe that it suits the codes and conventions of a radio show, although they haven't gone into detail we can conclude from this feedback it meets the brief and is well suited to our target audience and client.

Meeting the brief:

I believe our radio show ONE20 FM successfully met the brief and requirement's of a radio show as we have created a new local radio show for Sheffield Live and have met the content and conventions of producing a radio show through a range of ideas such as through the use of:

Presenters- We used two presenters in our radio show one being myself and the other Hannah, this is a feature of every radio show. As our brief is to create a local radio show both the presenters are Yorkshire and show conventions of being Yorkshire through the dialect and the phrases they use in the radio show. The mode of address used through the presenters is peer to peer which suits out target audience of young teenagers who usually speak in this mode of address when talking to their friends etc thou making it more relatable for our audience. We also used elobarte coding when speaking the dialogue from our script as it shows that it more relatable to a specific audience.

News Bulletin- At the beginning of our radio show we inserted a news bulletin which is used in every radio show whether it be local or national. As I read out the news I informed our audience while also entertaining them within the audio effects added to make it sound more interesting. Also through the use of having local news we met the brief of creating a local radio show, another reason for having local news as to inform our audience on anything which could be important to them for example our news bulletin which explains an issue with the Supertram as this is the main link to Meadowhall which is popular within our target audience demographics.

Features/Competitions etc- ONE20 FM also shows a range of features throughout our script which suits the brief, purpose and planning of our radio show. Competitions for example are included in our radio show which is there to fit the purpose of entertaining our audience, this is done through two competitions in which we give the winners tickets to Tramlines which supports the brief of a local radio show and this festival is common to the locals of Sheffield and also winning vouchers to spend at a bar. This fits our target audience of those above 18 as at the young age they would want to win tickets to spend at a trendy bar therefore tuning in to our radio show and gathering a wider target audience.

Our theme for our radio show is also confessionals, this is entertaining for the audience as it allows them to get things off the chest and to be in with a chance to win a prize for doing so, this is fitting the purpose of entertaining our audience as it shows a comedic value to our radio show in which humour they would fit interesting and funny. Thou making them want to tune in every show.

We have also included a feature of song requests, this is highly popular within radio stations for example Hallam FM and Capital do this which have a similar target audience. The song requests allows the audience to ring in or text with a song they want, this is accessible and easy for our audience to do as they will have smart phones and at the time of night in which we are airing our show in where our audience are getting ready to go out they will want to here songs picked by them for their entertainment.

Another feature which we include in our radio show which meets the brief and codes and conventions of a radio show is through the use of having a section on talking about celeb gossip. This is done at the end of our radio show. We have included a section on celeb gossip as our target audience will find it interesting to hear and entertaining with the narrative it portrays. We used trending news as this would be popular for our audience and everyone would want to know more details of a certain subject.

The use of trending songs and popular throwbacks was used in ONE20 FM as it suits a wider audience for anyone just tuning in it will make them want to carry on listening if they hear a song which is trending at the moment.

Jingles- ONE20 FM features many different jingles throughout our show, including news jingle, song jingles and station jingles. This is to portray our brand and changing the jingles up will make it more interesting for our audience to hear than the same jingle played all the time. As we play a jingle very often throughout the gaps in our show which is similar to Radio stations including Hallam FM and Capital in which they have a selection of jingles and are all played often.

Bedding music/audio effects- When in the editing stage we gathered sounds of royalty free websites, in which we downloaded the sounds and imported them into our show for it to meet the purpose of entertaining our audience but also showing conventions as a radio show through the use of bedding music. This is played in the background for it to sound more interesting as without this our audience might not want to tune in.

Advertisements- We have features of advertisements played throughout our radio show, these all relate to our intended target audience. One being about University which suits the age group of our audience from 16-25 as at that age most of them are students either at university or planning on going, therefore having an advert on that suits our planning for meeting the requirements of our target audience.

Strengths of ONE20 FM

I I believe we had a lot of strengths through creating our radio show ON20 FM. The first strength we succeeded in was creating a target audience and showing codes and conventions of this specific target audience throughout the process of producing a radio show. This was important as having an audience in mind would keep the show going and suits their demographics through the use of features which I have displayed above. This is also done through the mode of address we used having chatty dialogue which keeps the audience tuned in.

Another strength I believe we showed is how we met the purpose and brief in our radio show. The purpose was to entertain and I believe we did this through the features we added and songs included, this is one of the main factors in succeeding as if it didn't meet the purpose of entertaining then our audience wouldn't want to tune in again after listening to our radio show.

Weaknesses of ONE20 FM

Although our radio was successful from our audience and feedback, there was some weaknesses which occurred in the production of producing our radio show. One of the main weaknesses was due to the recording sometimes having unintentional added audio which didn't need to be there for example the sound of clicking and wispy sounds from when we was talking. Although we couldn't fix this at the time, this could be fixed if we was to produce a radio show again and record in a quieter location and making sure there was no audio what could be picked up from the microphone which didn't need to be there.

Another weakness which occurred was that we could have had more
local based music in our production as this would show that it is local based radio show and it would also gather an audience for the ,musicians therefore creating a community and showing the purpose on entertainment.

Chnages or Amendmants

One major change in which we did when producing our radio show ONE20 FM is to change of presenters. As it was originally three we changed it to two one being myself and there Hannah. This was due to us looking at other examples of radio shows in which it isn't common to have a lot of presenters as you don't feel as familiar with them as you should.

LO4: Producing the radio station

RADIO SHOW

PRODUCTION SCHEDULES

USE OF SETTING UP EQUIPMENT

Here is a photograph of Evie altering the microphone stand and adjusting it to be within our height when recording our dialogue into the microphone. It shows the pop filter, microphone stand, shock mounters and a sound proof mini sound booth which are all commonly used in radio and shows the conventions of producing a radio trail. This shows us setting up equipment.

This is a photograph of Shauna editing the audio as we go along recording it- she edits it through Garage band in which we then exported it on to Adobe Audition after finishing it. It shows her controlling the Mac book and using the settings on Garage band to get our audio on to a document. This shows us setting up the equipment of the Mac and edits.

EVIDENCE OF RECORDING

This shows Evie and Hannah the voice actors reading the dialogue from the script into the microphone. as it shows us following the script to produce our audio trail. There is also a pop filter over the microphone which makes our voices sound more clear and is used in the professional industry. There is also a shock mounter and microphone holder- this is helpful to use as it allows the microphone to stay still and won't have any unwanted wispy sounds in which could make the radio trail sound different. We also sat inform too a sound proof mini booth which is a smaller version of which they use in radio stations, this is to block out any unwanted sound therefore making it soundproof. This shows evidence of us recording

OFFLINE EDIT

EVIDENCE OF EDITING

We recorded all our dialogue for ON20 FM radio on the platform Garage band, this was used as you can record straight on to it and is an easy and quick platform to use. We recorded our jingles on this platform also at the end of speaking all our dialogue, advertisements were also recorded on this.

In order to edit our radio in Audition we needed to export our Garage band file and open it up on to Adobe Audition. We transferred it over in Audition as this is a professional platform and more suited for audio editing.

Once the radio had been imported into Adobe Audition we created a new document and began editing, this is where all our sound material was. We saved this as a multitrack making it much easier to edit and navigate around the page.

To ensure that out radio was going to be edited as it is a lengthy process we separated our clips into Track one, Track two and Track three where we kept the audio, music and added effects in. This made the whole process easier to edit.

The razor tool was used a lot throughout the process of editing our radio show ON20FM, this was due to being able to cut out a lot of unwanted footage due to it not being needed or being too long etc. This allowed us to fit the conventions of a radio show having small snippets of dialogue and inserting added audio effects in the middle of them to contribute to the purpose of entertaining the audience.

When inserting the background music in to Adobe Audition we altered the clip volume. This was changed to -8.4 decibels- we had it this low as we wanted the music to be visible when listening but not too overpowering for the audience to hear the presenters. This was also lowered as it shows professionalism in the industry similarly as they do in most radio shows the incidental music is always played but not too loud that you cant hear the presenters talking for example Hallam FM where although the music is still heard by the audience it isn't taking away any dialogue from the presenters

This is an example of how we kept the dialogue of the presenters volume higher than the background added music to state my aim above.

Using Adobe Audition to edit our footage was also to make it flow like a radio show should. Having all the materials together in one document supports this and shows conventions of producing a radio show and how it is aimed at our target audience with the amount of added audio effects and music as it shows that it is upbeat and suited for our target range of around 16-25.

Our music which was played throughout our radio show was also added into the same document. They were all saved as their names which made them easier to locate. We also knew where this was going due to looking at our script where we had the timings on, this showed us supporting our pre production documents for production. We added a fade out of the song which showed conventions of a radio show and making it sound less harsh and therefore more professional. This then faded back into the presenters talking, which was achieved by dragging key frames in the right position.

LO3: Codes and Conventions of Genre of planned show

Music
The music which will be used in my chosen genre of show which is a magazine talk show will feature a selection of music consisting of new hits to throwbacks, this will be played at the time of our show which is 7pm til 10pm when our audience are getting ready to go out This follows similar codes and conventions as it does when I looked at radio shows for example Big John at breakfast as although it is done as a breakfast genre it uses similar conventions which we would like to use  in our radio program, he also uses Yorkshire dialect which is used in our radio program with one presenter having a regional dialect and another being commuted in Sheffield and having the strong accent which is more relatable to our listeners and region but also understandable to those who comment out and in of Sheffield for nights out out. We will feature 3 songs throughout our radio program with some trending songs which will get the audience in the mood to listen to our radio.

Presenters
The dialogue in our radio show between the characters has a peer to peer mode of address, which is well suited for our target audience using colloquial language to entice the audience to want to carry on listening, It features two female presenters of different dialects for example one being Yorkshire, this is also suited towards our audience as they will understand the accent and dialect most likely being a local radio show, making it more relatable. The other presenter with a ethnic background which shows the difference in dialect when spoken and will also make the radio show more interesting with different tones of voices through the presenters.

Features
The features throughout our planned radio show ON20FM has a main theme of confessionals which our audience ring in and confess something they have done which is bad, this gives the audience a chance to win a prize which is done quite a few times in radio shows for example on Hallam FM, this persuades the audience to ring it as they get a chance of winning prizes which shows more advertisement for the radio show. There is also features for example competitions which also a good idea for advertising as our audience would enjoy winning the prizes and persudade them to listen. Summarily like other radio stations they contain a news feature, this is played at the beginning of our show which is to educate our audience on local news, although the purpose is to entertain it features important stuff what can be helpful to the local audience to be informed on.

Also one of our main features being the music which is played in our radio show, this is the main purpose of our target audience tuning in to our radio station to listen to their favourite songs. The use of call ins is also great for radio shows which is used in other radio shows across the industry as it allows the audience to connect with the radio. Requests can be made from the audience for a song of their choice to be heard, which is a suitable idea for my target audience. We also have advert content used in our radio show ONE20 FM, this is to gather funding to help contribute to the local radio station Sheffield Live, it also helps the community with local  businesses for example as it grows am audience for them also.

Jingles
We have also featured mulptiple jingles throughout our script to ensure the listeners are familiar with ON20 FM and brings it back to the 'brand'. WE feature a news jingle, a show jingle and a jingle before every song this is to show more entertainment as hearing the same things a lot in a short amount of space can get boring. But by having different jingles they all are short, upbeat and catchy which is great for our target audience of teenagers and young adults who are in to this style of music and tone of voice which is used in our jingle.

News
News featured throughout the beginning of our script in relatable to the target audience. For example one of the main news stories being about the Super tram which is a main link between Sheffield to meadow hall, which is a popular shop amongst our young target audience who are most presumably into shopping. Having local news like that informs our target audience and also it isn't boring news which can sometimes be the case for young adults when listening to radio news. News is featured a lot through Capital and Hallam for example as thy feature the news every half hour to an hour. This is to have a balance of what conventions should be in a radio show and not to make it popular.

Competitions
As well as the other main features of our radio show ONE20 FM, we feature different competitions in our show which contribute to the advertising for our radio, One of the competitions allows the audience to win Tramlines tickets, this relates to our young target audience as Tramlines is a festival in Sheffield which attracts all ages and shows a good atmosphere in Sheffield so everyone would be interested in winning a ticket, another reason is that it bring the audience back to remembering we are a local radio stations as Tramlines is one of the main events in Sheffield done every year and creates a buss around the City.

LO3: Planning a radio show

BRIEF
You have been asked by local community radio station, Sheffield Live!  to create a new and original radio show or drama.
You will create the first 5-10 minutes of the new radio show/ drama and include:
1.Presenters/ voice actors
2.News bulletin
3.Feature/ interview/ narrative
4.Jingle/ theme music
5.Bedding music/ sound/ effects

We will plan on addressing this with the below headings

Style and Content:

Our radio station will be a magazine talkshow and will include the headings below to fit the purpose of a radio script:

Presenters:

Our potential presenters will be ourselves so Shauna, Hannah and Evie but we also want to include a male voice so we will be using Joey as a presenter to show the purpose of having gender equality. The presenters will be using peer to peer mode of address and speaking in Yorkshire dialect to relate the station to Sheffield using elaborate coding which the audience will understand but people out of South Yorkshire may not.

Potential Names:

  • SHF
  • One20 FM
  • Forge FM
  • Kelham FM

Our chosen name is One20 FM,  this is relevant to the brief for a local radio station of Sheffield as  is it on of the main bus routes through Sheffield, and could also relate to the frequency at which the radio station is played at.

Song choices:
  • Akon- dont matter
  • Destinys child- Say my name

  • Bruno Mars- Finesse
  • Portugal the man- Feel it still
We have chosen these songs to be played in our radio production as they are all well known with 2 throwback songs and 3 trending songs, these would be typically be played on Hallam FM which we have got influence from, as having young 16-24 listeners from a C2DE classification which are similar to Hallam FMs demographics.

Features:

The main features of our radio station will include local competitions for the audience to enter for example having prizes like winning gig tickets which will be available for all the audience to win, however we will also have competitions to win nights out which will be accessible for the over 18 listeners to have a chance to win. Having a variety of competition prizes will attract our range of target audience from 16-24. Other features of our radio station will include a confessional ring in where the audience ring in with their problems, this is also a feature of Hallam FM and other radio stations which proves to be popular with their audience. Song requests will also be a main feature as this attracts a wider audience who want to listen to a certain song when getting ready so having call ins will be popular with our audience range who all have access to smartphones and tech.

Advertisements:

Our advertisements played throughout our radio station will be relatable to our young target audience for example car insurance which will educate the audience on best car insurance companies for their age group who will most likely have driving lessons and start passing their tests at the audience age range of 16-24. Another advertisement which will be sponsored are open university dates to attract the audience and inform them of when local open days will best suit them. A sponsorship which will be featured are clothes websites such as pretttylittlething as our target audience are 75% female this will attract them to listen as it could be showing deals or codes to buy new clothes online, also as there clothes are mostly going out items it will attract that audience who are getting ready for a night out while listening to the radio station. The adverts and sponsorships will be wrote by Shauna

Jingle/Slogan:

"Start your night right with ONE20fm"
"ON20FM stay tuned for local news and weather all night long"

19:01- Introduction of presenters and theme done
19:02- Song (Gods plan) done
19:03- Competition information done
19:03- Phone in request done
19:04- Song (Feel it still) one
19:05- Advertisements break done
19:07- Station jingle  done
19:07- Song (Beautiful Girls) done

Our theme for the radio show is confessions and best one wins a night out.

Genre:

We will be making a magazine radio talkshow scheduled at 7pm-10pm, features which will fit the time of when our radio station Is aired are our narrative throughout the show as the presenters will bring up points to relate that it is night time for example hoping that everyone has a good night out or the overnight weather which might interest the audiences who are on nights out to keep wrapped up. Anther feature which will connote the it is a night time talkshow are the confessionals which may be to rude to be played in a breakfast show for example, the language could be too explicit for any other time of the day.
